Statement
Since setting up my own studio in 1998, I have been committed to drawing and painting full time. Exploring the potential of acrylics, watercolours and oils.
Although I initially studied graphic design and illustration, I have always loved drawing and painting.
The themes and preoccupation of my recent paintings have been colour and mark-making in the basic language of Colour Field.
My current fascination is with immediacy versus the subtlety of colour, and it’s ability to express emotions and evoke response.
Healing, with colour and mark-making for me has achieved balance, health and happiness.
History
Ernesto Floriano Vaz
Born 1952 in Nairobi, Kenya
Came to the United Kingdom (Scotland) in 1972
A refugee of Idi Amin’s Uganda regime.
Trained at Glasgow School of Art.
Achieving First Class Diploma and a Masters in Arts in Graphic Design, Illustration and Typography.
Worked as a Visualizer and as an Art Director in design studios and advertising agencies in London and Scotland.
Now working full-time from my studio in Glasgow.
